Tell us a little bit about your and your background. I am an illustrator, designer, educator, and maker of things from Northern NJ. I love to create illustrations that solve problems using visual metaphors and enticing visuals. After graduating from Montclair State with a BFA in illustration, I have had a varied career including graphic design, operations of a women’s entrepreneurship group, and editorial illustration for clients like the Boston Globe and The Washington Post. This past year I had the honor of having a piece I created recognized as a Chosen Winner by American Illustration 40. My illustration work can be found at robynphelps.com. I graduated from Manhattanville College in 2020 with a BA in Theatre Performance. I have been performing both in Westchester and in NYC for over 8 years, and recently transitioned to focus on film work during the pandemic. As an actor and growing business professional, I’ve spent the last several years working in administrative leadership, event planning, sales, marketing, and brand development What attracted you to One River School? Read MoreArt Focus®: Drawing Intertwined Entities Grades 3-5 Overview: Students learned to establish texture for form through inking, and how to convey nature realistically. Students learned about essential fundamentals in drawing, including creating a balanced composition and using inking techniques to convey nature realistically. They also learned how to incorporate elements of symbolism as a tool for creating a narrative. Artist Inspiration: Lauren Marx I love how students were able to create drawings using common subject matter like animals, flora & fauna, and elevate them by creating a more meaningful narrative. The notes of symbolism in the relationships between the animals and other natural elements make each drawing much more interesting to observe and interpret. The project also allowed students to hone in on important drawing techniques using hatching and cross-hatching to create gradients and shadows.
