Tell us a little bit about your journey as an artist. At first, I started drawing cars because I wanted to be a mechanical design expert. Then, I started getting into comic books and animated series. I started drawing characters from these series and my own. I hope to go to art school and become a comic illustrator. Which has been your favorite project to work on at One River and why? My favorite project to work on at One River was the last art show project for Teen Art Shuffle Plus, Nature Maché. I made a papier-mâché gorilla hiding in a forest. Since I had only really done pencil drawing before, it was exciting to try sculpting for the first time. I enjoyed the process of sculpting with papier-mâché and other materials, like armature wire for the trees. Painting all of the details was fun, too. The project pushed…

Tell us a little bit about you and your background. Graduating from the University of Rhode Island in 2024 with a Bachelor’s degree in Art as well as one in Criminology, I was uncertain what to do with my dual degrees in completely unrelated fields. Freshman year, I went into college thinking I would graduate with a Criminology degree and, upon graduation, immediately work in law enforcement and eventually make my way to the FBI. Criminal justice and the American policing system has always fascinated me, but throughout my time at URI, I slowly realized that the more I learned about American law enforcement and true crime, the less I wanted to be part of the industry. Art has always been a passion of mine, and adding my Art major during the end of my freshman year was one of the best decisions of my life. At first, I added…

Tell us a little bit about your journey as an artist. I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember, with some of my earliest pieces being from preschool. I would say I don’t know exactly where the motivation came from, but that’s because, to me art is a very subconscious process, and I can tell that the styles that I enjoy or would even want to replicate in my own artwork today are derived from the children’s books I enjoyed when I was a toddler, most notably with author-illustrators like Eric Carle and Mo Willems. I think it’s important that I’m noting children’s book artists instead of historically famous people or ones that exist on social media, because with art being a subconscious process, I feel like what you see in life deeply influences your creativity and that even small things like books, movies and even the house…

Tell us a little bit about you and your background. I have my associates in Visual Art from SCCC & BFA from SUNY Oneonta. My first job out of college was teaching private art classes to special needs adults which is when I discovered my love for teaching. I love teaching art. Studio Art—painting & drawing—have always been my main forms of art. But over the past 5 years I’ve branched out to clay, jewelry making, crochet & digital art.      What attracted you to work at One River School? I was an administrative manager for 5 years, and I had no time, or energy for my art. I wanted a career that was aligned with what I went to school for but also gave me time to focus on my art. Being able to teach as well was a bonus to me.  I saw an opportunity to do what…
