Tell us a little bit about you and your background.

I have my associates in Visual Art from SCCC & BFA from SUNY Oneonta. My first job out of college was teaching private art classes to special needs adults which is when I discovered my love for teaching. I love teaching art. Studio Art—painting & drawing—have always been my main forms of art. But over the past 5 years I’ve branched out to clay, jewelry making, crochet & digital art.   

What attracted you to work at One River School?

I was an administrative manager for 5 years, and I had no time, or energy for my art. I wanted a career that was aligned with what I went to school for but also gave me time to focus on my art. Being able to teach as well was a bonus to me. 

I saw an opportunity to do what I love everyday, with Artist of all ages and abilities. One River gives me the time and space to teach & hone in on the skills of aspiring Artist; while also being able to focus on my own art outside of class. 

How would you describe what it is like to teach at One River?

It’s a unique experience, it’s like being in the center of an artist’s mind. You’re in this creative environment with so much energy, so many ideas, so many like minded people; who are completely different at the same time. It really keeps you on your toes. Everyday is different, but everyday you get to push and challenge not just your students artistic abilities but yours as well. 

What has been your favorite project to teach and why?

“Fairy Tale Illustrations” is my current favorite project. I loved the fun and a little dark ideas that the teens really came up with for flipping the narrative. 

Is there a special One River moment that stands out for you?

The first time one of my more energetic, easily  distracted students finished a painting I was so proud. He is full of energy, needs consistent stimulation, and lots of attention. Getting him to complete a project start to finish is not an easy task. 

What do you enjoy outside of One River?

I love yoga, and I’m in a roller derby league. My derby name is Hitz Dnt Lie.
