Tell us a little bit about you and your background. Besides an educator I’m an award-winning illustrator whose work is focused on the children’s market. Having illustrated over 35 children’s books, my partial client list includes Viking Books, Simon & Schuster, Dial Books, Scholastic, New York Times, Major League Baseball, The Grammys, Disney Animation and many more. Awards include The Society of Illustrators Los Angeles. A graduate from The School of Visual Arts, NYC. What attracted you to work at One River School? The professionalism. Read MoreTell us a little bit about you and your background. I’ve been an art educator since 2014 working with students aged Pre-K through adults in various settings. I first started teaching art in extracurricular settings before finding work in private and charter schools. I love working outside of traditional schools because our students really want to be here and are motivated and dedicated in their work. In my personal practice I love studying figures and exploring color. I love work that is expressive and emotional. What attracted you to work at One River School? Prior to working here, I’ve worked as a volunteer in community art and LGBTQ+ centers and it has always been a dream of mine to open my own community center that combines art education and advocacy work. Read MoreTell us a little bit about your journey as a young and developing artist. I feel like before I joined One River, I was more closed off, especially about what type of art I liked to do. I didn’t know what my art style was. Now I feel like I’m more open to different techniques, instead of just always sticking with what I know. I also now prefer to work with mixed media, cause I can give it different details and textures and make it look more realistic, or old fashioned, etc. depending on what style I’m going for.
