Student Showcase: Kira

By One River School

Tell us a little about your journey as a young and developing artist.  Wow! My journey has been good because I enjoy expressing myself without having to use my words. I can let my thoughts and feelings out through my art or I could capture memories that are important to me. I’m also free to be silly sometimes too!   Which has been your favorite project to work on at One River? I made a mini TV out of an energy bar box. It was really fun to color and doodle on a surface I’ve never worked on before. It was a cool challenge to figure out how to build something, and assemble the materials, so it “worked” but also looked good too. I’m not much of a sculptor so it felt great when it came out good in the end.   Describe One River in 3 words. The three…

Educator Showcase: Deniz Yazar

By One River School

Tell us a little bit about you and your background. My name is Deniz Yazar. I’m a graduate from the School of Visual Arts (BFA Cartooning program) I love reading comics and watching cartoons, most my my early inspirations for my art came from the wacky and zany styles of artist like John Kricfalusi, Hannah Barbara, and Osamu Tezuka to name a few. What attracted you to work at One River School? Before One River, I was working a retail job, and I was searching for something more meaningful to do with my life. I stumbled upon One River on Indeed where they listed a position for Teachers Assistant. I shot over my application for any open positions they had, had my phone call interview with the staff, and to my surprise they took me on as a full one instructor for classes and camps.     How would you…

Team Showcase: Madelyn Zachara

By One River School

Tell us a little bit about you and your background I grew up in Maplewood NJ, the next town over from Millburn, and constantly exposed to art of all kinds. My dad makes and repairs stained glass windows and is always researching different artistic styles and influences, from natural to architectural and industrial design, so I grew up learning to see the world through that artistic lens. I went on to receive my BFA from Bucknell University and my Masters from Rutgers University, both in Art History with a concentration on Hudson River School painting. Though I joke that I can only draw stick figures, I find myself attuned to color patterns and design elements in my everyday life.   What attracted you to work at One River School? I would often drive by the Millburn location and was intrigued by the school. I also met Kristin Stazzone in 2015…
