Tell us a little bit about you and your background. I’m an illustrator, first and foremost! I am a huge fan of all things animation & video games. These long-lived hobbies inspired me to keep creating, and I eventually earned my BFA in Animation and Illustration at Montclair State University. I love creating storylines, designing characters, and making concept art.     What attracted you to work at One River School? I’ve enjoyed many non-art-related opportunities working with students via tutoring and volunteer programs in the past. I thought it was a great opportunity, not only to continue working on my biggest passion, but to help foster that love for creation in another generation.  One River Allendale’s administration is also extremely supportive, not only to our students, but also to the many incredible teachers I’ve had the opportunity to meet since I’ve started here. Tell us a little bit about you and your background. Born and raised in New Rochelle, NY, I earned my BFA in Cartooning & Illustration from The School of Visual Arts. After graduation, I worked a variety of freelance art projects before discovering a passion for teaching and classroom management, ultimately returning to my alma mater as an art educator. Sharing my love for visual arts while helping shape young minds proved to be incredibly rewarding. Some time after relocating to Northport, Long Island to start my family, I proudly opened my own art studio. Art Shuffle®: Kids Mickalene Thomas Self Portraits in Constructed Landscapes Overview: Studying the works of Mickalene Thomas, students create a self-portrait using techniques such as collage and pattern. To begin, students brainstorm and sketch a series of patterns. They translate their pattern or print onto canvas. The final outcome involves a vibrant self portrait with particular attention to background to convey the students own conception of the self. Essential Skills: Create various patterns and prints using drawing media. Ability to create a realistic portrait with attention to value and position. Experiment with multi-media art and study how color impacts pattern design.
