Rhythm

unnamed (42)

I know a lot about rhythm having spent a good part of my career in and around music, while also having a personal passion for music. But, rhythm also plays a part in visual artmaking, and in life for that matter, and it is featured in ways that are not frequently thought about.

When I watch someone in the art studio making an object, I could often tell whether they have a good sense of rhythm… “they are in the flow”, or perhaps they’re struggling, and their artwork is “sounding” a little disjointed. It’s kind of that way in life as well. Sometimes we’re moving smoothly through our days and weeks and sometimes we’re bumping into walls metaphorically.

Over the course of my life, I’ve studied a lot about our growth and development and for the last 25 years it’s really been through the lens of creative education in visual, art, and music. But now I’m about to begin sharing so much more that I’ve learned through my new book GROW or FOLD and I can’t wait to be able to help more people, not just artists and musicians, to find their rhythm in life and to do my best to make a difference.
