Flow
When I talk about “celebrating the journey”, it sounds like a metaphor for how to enjoy life. It is. But, it’s also metaphor for enjoying the art making process and the growth, trials and enjoyment that come with doing creative things.
My curiosity around human development and the creative process is something that drives me everyday. The most fun part of my job is watching students in action and then asking them to describe what they are doing and thinking when they were making something. I often take close-up photographs that capture “the joy of doing”, where it is so compelling to see people completely engaged in their work that they often don’t even notice me three feet away.
There’s a mental state of being that we call “Flow”. Artists, musicians and athletes talk about it. Researchers suggest that it’s great for your brain and your physical health as well. And, it’s what happens everyday at One River School.
