Tell us a little bit about you and your background.

I am a graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design, but I have been exploring digital graphics – Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash (now Adobe Animate) since the late 20th century. In college, I dove head first into 3D animation, with a focus on character design and technical direction, in which I am able to combine my love of art and science (MATH!) into one, satisfying field of study.

What attracted you to work at One River School?

At One River School, I am able to combine my professional experience in education as well as my academic study of digital graphics. Being able to see students make a successful transition from traditional to digital media is my happy place. I love providing the path in which students wonder “how do I do this,” to help them realize their own creative vision.

How would you describe what it is like to teach here?

I like the ability to modify lessons as needed. Technology, and therefore digital techniques, evolve rapidly. The nature of One River projects allow me to stay on top of the latest trends as well as explore new ways of teaching the latest in terms of software and industry-level standards.

What has been your favorite project to teach and why?

I love teaching Blender courses. It’s a great feeling to introduce students to the software as well as general concepts of 3D modeling, sculpting, and animation. I also enjoy any project that allows students to create unique and interesting characters as a means of expressing themselves through digital media techniques.

Is there a special One River moment that stands out for you?

Having students come in with very minimal understanding at the beginning of a project and seeing them “enjoy the struggle” of learning something new, after which, they come out on the other side, not only having learned something new (be it a concept or creative technique), but also with a work of art of which they are genuinely proud.

What do you enjoy outside of One River?

I enjoy cooking for people willing to subject themselves to my cooking. I have a few solid recipes, but love to experiment in the kitchen. Weather permitting, I love being in the woods. While some people prefer the sea, I would rather spend my time amongst the trees. I’ve been to more comedy shows than traditional concerts, and I love making people laugh.
