People often ask me what determines a great artwork. And, sometimes I go into detail about the process, the subject matter, materials, etc.   Other times, I simply say “you know it when you see it”.

This past week I visited our school in Port Jefferson, NY and while reviewing so many fabulous artworks from this summer, I stumbled on the incredible landscape painting above and it just struck me. When you look at this work, it actually rivals a lot of the contemporary landscape works that I see in major galleries and art fairs. There’s a playful nature to it and the artist painted a very personal perspective.

This September, we begin our 11th year teaching people of all ages and all levels at One River School. I’m so proud of our team and our students. The work they are doing is so special and I know it cause I see it.
