Monday Thoughts: Genius
Every Sunday I watch CBS Sunday Morning. It is very simply the best of what television can be: smart, thoughtful segments that often share a special twist or nuance that make me feel better about the world we live in.
Yesterday’s theme was “Mind Matters” and it delved into a topic that I often think and write about: “the mysteries of the mind”. The main segment was called “In Search of Genius” and it was a beautifully told tale about the difference between those who are super smart and those who are defined as genius. According to Walter Issacson, who has written bestselling biographies of Leonardo da Vinci, Albert Einstein, Benjamin Franklin and Steve Jobs, “smart people are a dime a dozen, but being a genius means you must be creative, imaginative, and possess uncontainable curiosity”. Watch the piece here.
This answer made me feel so good about what we are doing at One River School. We help support the curious side in people by giving them a space, with resources, teachers and peers to push their imagination and stretch their curiosity.
Life is so complex and I am certain that no matter where you are in life, you will grow by doing something creative. Go for it.
