One River School Brings Spray Paint and Street Art to Summer Camps
Campers learn the history and technique to create their own original Street Art
(Engelwood, NJ – June 21, 2024) – One River School, an organization on a mission to "transform art education"® in America, today announced its continued innovation in summer camp programming with the largest selection of Street Art camps. With a focus on fun, education, and the art of today, the school is tapping into the Street Art movement as a creative outlet for art expression for students of all ages. At the School’s flagship location in Englewood, NJ, as well as at a dozen other locations in communities throughout the tri-state area, campers ages 8-17 will get the unique experience to learn about Street Art’s impact on Modern Art and to bring their ideas, techniques, and strategies to build their own, large scale work of art.
“Our Street Art curriculum is just one of the many reasons why summer camps at One River School blow me away,” said Matt Ross, Founder and CEO of One River School. “This program is like none other. Our campers have an unforgettable experience and incredible artwork!”
The Street-Art movement, marked by artists around the world such as England-based Banksy and Swoon, has placed graffiti on the map. During each week-long camp session, students study graffiti and street art as a base for making their own large-scale spray paintings. They learn about the various impacts of public art, and they explore and experiment with essential art-making techniques including composition, stencil making, color theory, bounced paint, wheat pasting, and various spray painting techniques.
“Our Street Art programming at One River School is a truly unique offering. By combining large scale format and spray painting technique with educational exposure to influential street artists, we are turning young students into remarkable artists in just one week,” said Angela Shin, Vice President, Education and Operations, One River School. “The students take the inspiration of their learnings to develop impressive art outcomes that they are really proud of.”
At the end of each camp session, all outcomes (the final works of art) are included in a Friday exhibition, displayed in each schools’ gallery.

Wynwood (Grades 6-12): The Wynwood Art District Association was founded in early 2003 by a group of art dealers, artists and curators. This thriving neighborhood in Miami, Florida features over 200 murals painted by street artists from around the world. In this camp we look at their art to be inspired for our own street art paintings. Students create a street art painting to convey a message after learning about the various impacts of public art.
Banksy (Grades 6-12): Banksy is a pseudonymous England-based street artist who has been active since the 1990s. He creates satirical street art that combine humor with graffiti executed in a distinctive stenciling technique. Banksy has helped place graffiti on the map and grown it to be an accepted creative outlet.
Galaxies (Grades 6-12): In this camp, students will study graffiti as a base for making their own street-art paintings that are galaxy-themed. Students will work on large-scale wood panels using acrylic and spray paint.
Street Art Painting (K-5): In this camp, students will study graffiti as a base for making their own street-art paintings. Students will work on large-scale wood panels using acrylic and spray paint.
