Team Showcase: Emily C Rocha
Tell us a little bit about you and your background.
My name is Emily and I have been at One River Montclair since May 2024. I have always been artistic, but it took me a while to find a career that felt like the BEST fit. When I first read the description for the ADOM position at Montclair, I thought this was too good to be true! Fast forward to today, and every week seems like a new challenge and adventure. I remember Matt saying this position would take me at least 2 years to feel at home in, and he wasn’t wrong! I love getting ready for the next big show, or welcoming the next aspiring artist into our wonderful school.
What attracted you to work at One River School?
I have always wanted to work in a creative environment where no two days were the same. I love coming into work and getting ready for the next big project or sales initiative. It is also a bonus to get to work around so many cool and talented young artists.
How would you describe your team?
My team is AWESOME. They continuously motivate and challenge me. They’re a fun group, but they mean BUSINESS!
What do you think we do best at One River?
I think what we do best at One River is support and encourage artists of all ages. From Art Start to Adult Intro, I see such care and motivation from all of our instructors. No matter what stage of your artist journey, they WANT to see you succeed and grow.
Is there a special One River moment that stands out for you?
A special One River moment that stands out to me happened just last week! During our Winter Student Show, one of our Kids Art Shuffle artists named Benjamin had a party of nearly 20 people come to see his artwork. He was so happy and his family and friends looked so proud to support him. This was Benjamin’s first show at One River and this moment almost made me tear up! I got the cutest picture of him and his group.
Who or what motivates you?
Our students and our team motivate me the MOST. I see how much effort and soul they put into everything they do! We’re all artists here in our own unique way, and we really try to be the ultimate support system for everyone who walks through our door. From instructors to students, we’re here for each other and we all want to continue growing as artists. It’s a journey for everyone involved, and I’m happy to get to be a part of something like this.
What do you enjoy outside of One River?
Outside of One River, I enjoy spending time with my puppy, Froggy Murphy! I also enjoy working on craft projects for my apartment, going to the movies, or exploring the city.
