Monday Thoughts: The Role of Creativity in Your Career
The thing that got me into this business in the first place was my curiosity. When I worked in big companies, I didn’t always find the culture supported my interests in exploring new ideas and strategies. The truth is, the larger a company gets, the more hard wired their processes becomes. As I grew older I started to realize that my creative instincts required me to shift gears.
Having said that, the question is: where are you in your career, and what can a new, creative approach to your future allow you to achieve? Martin Yale recently wrote a feature for Forbes that identified 7 Transferable Skills that would help people in the career shifts:
- Technical
- Communication
- Critical Thinking
- Multitasking
- Teamwork
- Creativity
- Leadership
Creativity is clearly valued by most, but we often don’t know how to quantify and measure creativity. Do you know how creative you are? Take a test.
I am on a mission to get us doing creative things – things that expand our mind as we get older and prepare our brains to become more adaptable. Tell me what you think about this.
