Sharing

What would it be like to make food and not eat it?   To write music and not perform it?  That’s what it would be like to make artwork and not share it. This past weekend our schools across the country opened student shows and I spent time at our two locations in New Jersey connecting with students and staff and celebrating some amazing art. You can view photos here from our student exhibition.

When you share your artwork you get critical feedback. You also get to look at it through a new lens… side-by-side with other artwork…so you get a perspective for how your work holds up relative to others.   This information informs your decisions…you bake a cake and people share their thoughts about the taste…that’s what art making and “art-sharing” is about.

I’m proud of the art school we have created. Visual art is simply undervalued in today’s society and we are working on closing that gap.  But then again, when I was a little kid, no one ever jogged so maybe we are on to something.

Sincerely,
