CQ…a new measure of adaptability
Do you ever stop and think about how complex our world is? The rapid pace of change seems to be both exciting and sometimes overwhelming as it challenges our senses to stay up to speed and to keep things in order. For a long while, I have been interested in what drives some people to adapt better than others to all the moving parts.
AHA! Maybe it is curiosity??? Do you rule out new ways of doing things or do you jump in with a pure interest to learn and evolve? Do you challenge yourself to think differently or are you stuck in your ways…resistant to change and as a result, leaving some of the adaptability on the table?
I stumbled on this very short and very smart article in HBR that tries to create some understanding around the value of curiosity and its importance within today’s times. We know a lot about IQ and are learning more about EQ. This article starts to frame the value of “CQ”. CQ stands for “curiosity quotient” and concerns having a hungry mind. People with higher CQ are more inquisitive and open to new experiences according to Harvard Business Review.
My mantra in life is for everyone to do something creative. We focus on eating and exercise ad nauseam. Check off those boxes…then go take a cool class. Art, Music, Writing, etc.
Albert Einstein said “I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious”.
