Abbey Road
April 20, 2015
Not sure what comes to mind when I say “Abbey Road,” but my gut is that 99.9% of Americans think of the epic Beatles Album. Interestingly, Abbey Road may be their most well known record but most Beatles fans suggest it was not their best…Sgt. Peppers and Revolver tend to flip-flop in the top position.
Since I write and think about creativity all the time, I am often drawn into the interconnection of art and music. I find myself dissecting the work people do and the unique attributes that go into making something special. It often comes down to effort…the magic of “special talent” is quite often overrated…time, desire, practice and the love of doing it wins out. It helps to have talent…lord knows the Beatles had the most.
It also helps to have a cool space to work at. When people walk into One River I want them to feel different…to think “this place feels cool” and to get a quick sense that we really care about cultivating a great experience that includes studios that complement the experience.
If you want to get a feeling for what an amazing music studio looks like, take a look at Google’s interactive tour of the Abbey Road studios. Through the wonders of today’s technology, you can place yourself in the rooms and watch videos of songs that were recorded there. So cool to get behind the scenes and get a taste of where people created the most enduring music ever made.
