Full Moon
Last night I was driving home and was fascinated by the full moon, aka Super Moon. Did you see it? It was outta control…larger, clearer and brighter than I have ever seen it in NJ. Apparently this was a phenomenon that everyone saw over the last week and Huffington Post (scroll down to see slideshow) did a great job documenting shots from around the world that were breathtaking. What is it about the full moon that engages us so? According to Wikipedia, “Full moons are traditionally associated with temporal insomnia, insanity (hence the terms lunacy and lunatic) and various ‘magical phenomena.”For thousands of years, artists have also documented the sky, the stars and the moon in particular. Van Gogh’s Starry Night may be the most famous painting of all time but today we pay homage to the moon over the stars. Vincent van Gogh painted dozens of Wheat Fields borne out of his religious studies and sermons, and Landscape with Wheat Sheaves and Rising Moon (above) shows the drama the moon creates. Check it out and get outside tonight to see the real thing.Monday, August 11, 2014
