Folk Art Jersey Style

Folk art is a category that Wikipedia describes as: “art produced from an indigenous culture or by peasants or other laboring tradespeople. In contrast to fine art, folk art is primarily utilitarian and decorative rather than purely aesthetic.”

In today’s art world, it is super hard to receive credibility from galleries and museums without an MFA from the right school.  Given the size and scope of the art world today, sometimes we tend to lose sight of the fact that there are some really great artists whose work just makes you feel good.

Last week I visited the Outsider Art Fair and met Lee Neary on the street selling his work and bought this crazy “Jerseyesque” woodcarving.  Check out my brief interview with Lee and visit his website. The man is smart and doing really fun things and I think he deserve some attention.
