Monday Thoughts: Robert Downey Jr.
Robert Downey Jr.
Last week I heard a very accomplished actor say that Robert Downey Jr. is the top male actor of this era. This week Iron Man 3 opened to over $600 Million in worldwide sales (Downey reportedly earned over $50 Million) and it is tracking to become potentially the highest grossing film all time. I’m not going to debate Robert’s importance among actors; but I am fascinated with his complete life turnaround and it all stems from sorting out what is important.
We are all enamored with people who overcome major obstacles, in fact we revel in it. While I am not an expert in this I can tell you that people with purpose tend to have better outcomes and “purpose” can be about doing good for others, it can be about maximizing pure potential or it can be about learning / hobbies. My life changed when I had kids and consequentially my career took off as well. For me it was merely a wake up call about the importance of life and the need to provide…it added fuel to my ambition to be successful since it was no longer just about me.
Every day I see people who walk into One River saying “I want to do something for me” or “I want my kids to really learn art and I heard your place is cool.” Sometimes, I can see people are just looking for more constructive / fun experiences. They take in our gallery and take a personal interest in the artists we show. My purpose is to inspire people with “lifelong creative learning”…and check out a superhero movie once in awhile.
