I’m Voting for the Art Party

I love when this happens. Saturday morning I opened the NY Times and there it was, another article about how important it is for us to raise creative kids. For someone who has spent the last ten years in creative education this is music to my ears.

As we hurl through another political cycle and we listen to countless theories about what is plaguing America, you rarely, if ever, hear a creative thought about education. Why is that? Perhaps it’s too complicated or that it is not as obvious as wage stagnation or our healthcare crisis. Perhaps there are other reasons.

Well, with Iowa upon us today and the countdown in motion, I am making my case for the art party! Over the next 30 years, we will continue a seismic shift where designers and artists with a business sensibility will have more opportunities than ever before. Maybe I need to create One River U!

Matt Ross is the Founder of One River School of Art + Design. Since 2012, One River has grown from one location in Englewood, NJ to fifteen schools in six states with a goal to “transform art education” across America. Prior to One River School, Matt was the CEO of School of Rock, where he built the company into the world leader in music education for kids. Prior to his experience with School of Rock, Matt held a variety of management positions in broadcasting, working for diverse media companies such as Clear Channel, CBS and Viacom. He is also active in promoting Autism awareness and supporting emerging artists and is passionate about collecting Contemporary Art with a focus on painting, mixed media and drawing.
