We Are All Kids at Heart

Talk to any songwriter and they can’t always tell you why one of their songs is better than the others. The same thing goes for painting or visual arts. You make a lot of objects and once in awhile you have a breakthrough.

Andrea Williams has been taking our adult art classes since we opened here in the Fall of 2012. Once a week that door opens and I greet Andrea and we both smile. She smiles because this a place that allows her to escape the world for two hours and challenge herself to create new and different artworks. I smile because she embodies our adult art student…someone seeking to tap into another part of their brain through art making. People talk about One River as a place for kids to learn art…guess what? We are all Kids!

This past weekend we had our student show and Andrea’s artwork was right there on our walls with kids of all ages…. some over 50 and some younger than 5. The wall tells all and you can see the story line across all ages, all media and all subject matter.

All kids and I’m a damn proud papa.

Matt Ross

Matt Ross is the Founder of One River School of Art + Design. Since 2012, One River has grown from one location in Englewood, NJ to fifteen schools in six states with a goal to “transform art education” across America. Prior to One River School, Matt was the CEO of School of Rock, where he built the company into the world leader in music education for kids. Prior to his experience with School of Rock, Matt held a variety of management positions in broadcasting, working for diverse media companies such as Clear Channel, CBS and Viacom. He is also active in promoting Autism awareness and supporting emerging artists and is passionate about collecting Contemporary Art with a focus on painting, mixed media and drawing.
