The Mets Are Cool!
I am not a Mets fan even though I grew up within a walking distance from Shea Stadium. In fact, it was hard to be a fan of the Mets or Yankees growing up because they were both pretty bad when I was a kid. My Dad rooted for his “hometown” team…the Giants…and somehow I found myself rooting for a team that I never saw in the pre-cable TV days.
One of the greatest celebrations in life is the “transformation.” We all know it when we see it. In sports it is obvious…we keep score and when losing turns to winning the entire essence seemingly changes. Teaching art is about transformation at the most basic level. We take people and help move them from point A to point B and beyond. Along the way, they grow, learn, evolve and most often wind up at a better place. This “better” place is true self-expression and we don’t have to keep score to know it when we see it.
