SuperMoon – SuperArt
So, what is it about the Supermoon that seemed to generate such emotional response? It has to be the fact that we have such hard-wired visual cues that are affected when we see the moon differently. In this case, the moon appeared larger in the sky (only 7-8%) and colored … our visual senses are so sharp that these benign changes really seemed massive to us.
I am particularly interested in how our visual sensitivity can drive emotion and that is one of the essential things that art does. It challenges you to look at AND feel something. What I have found as an art educator is that people’s ability to absorb visual cues are greatly enhanced as they spend more time creating and engaging with art. This provides a multitude of benefits from improved creative thinking to an enhanced mood.
SuperMoon = SuperArt at its core!
