The Digital Age Rocks!

It’s just that simple.  Think about what you were doing 10/20/30 years ago (if you are old like me you can go back longer).  Now, think about how things get done today.  The efficiency and speed at which we move is staggering.  The tools at our disposal are unbelievable.

When I was a kid, I really did think that the Dick Tracy cartoon was the coolest.  The dude had a watch with a video phone on it.  Today I sit on conference calls where we have a video conference going on WebEx with the entire group all over world seeing each other in real time through the Internet without anything other than your computer and a broadband connection.

PDA’s are the greatest invention of our era.  I was a 1st generation “crackberry” addict…I remember going to the Jackson Five Anniversary show (sadly the night before 9-11) and during the concert I was snapping away emails until the CEO of our company smacked me on the back and told me to watch the show.  Now I am addicted to my iPhone and despite some of the annoyances that these devices have brought (i.e.: kids today have zero phone skills which will set them back socially and in business). I have to admit that watching the Daily Show clips, while reading the Times and flipping around the world instantaneously for information is the best way for me to enjoy my 30 minute lunch break.

Which brings me to a point.  If you are not jazzed by the digital age, it’s probably because you have been on the sidelines.  That’s ok for now but I promise you that you will feel like a caveman over your next 30 years if you don’t get smart.  Commercial message: we have some new digital classes starting next week.  Check out our menu.

When I graduated school my friend Steve Ehrlich told me that he was selling these new machines for AT&T called facsimile machines and that they sent images over the phone to your desktop machine.  He told me they were going to change business.  They did…now they are obsolete.  Nothing is worse than being obsolete.
