Tell us a little bit about you and your background.

I’m an illustrator, first and foremost! I am a huge fan of all things animation & video games. These long-lived hobbies inspired me to keep creating, and I eventually earned my BFA in Animation and Illustration at Montclair State University. I love creating storylines, designing characters, and making concept art.

What attracted you to work at One River School?

I’ve enjoyed many non-art-related opportunities working with students via tutoring and volunteer programs in the past. I thought it was a great opportunity, not only to continue working on my biggest passion, but to help foster that love for creation in another generation.

One River Allendale’s administration is also extremely supportive, not only to our students, but also to the many incredible teachers I’ve had the opportunity to meet since I’ve started here. I’m beyond grateful to be part of such an awesome team.

How would you describe what it is like to teach here?

Teaching at One River has probably been one of the most fulfilling experiences I have ever had. I’ve had the opportunity to teach every class range we offer at One River, from very young students to adults! This has given me amazing opportunities to connect with artists of all ages. Everyday I teach, I’m always thinking: “I wonder what cool and creative ideas my students are going to come up with this time!”

I think it’s important that the studio feels like it’s its own community. I want my classrooms to always be a safe space for my students to be themselves and explore their ideas. It feels so rewarding when I see one of my students light up, genuinely proud of their work, and knowing that I helped facilitate that.

What has been your favorite project to teach and why?

My favorite project so far has probably been the “Reimagined Elements” project. It was cool seeing how far my students could take their creativity, turning regular objects into interesting characters with stories behind them.

Is there a special One River moment that stands out for you?

While I love having the opportunity to give feedback and encouragement to my students, I think it’s extra special whenever I get to see them interact with each other. Discussing their thought-process, inspirations, or even just their days with each other is just as important for students as having a professional voice guide and support for their work. I think it’s great that we’ve created an environment where we can build a community of artists.

What do you enjoy outside of One River?

You can usually catch me playing video games, going on long walks, or doodling in my sticker-covered sketchbook in my free time. I like spending time with the people I love and collecting every hobby under the sun!
