Team Introductions: Megan Becker

Tell us a little bit about you and your background.
Megan Becker, a New Jersey based artist, graduated from University of the Arts, in Philadelphia, receiving her BFA in illustration. She has taught at various art centers including the Visual Art Center of New Jersey, The Center for Contemporary Art, the Hunterdon Art Museum, and the Princeton Arts Council. Megan takes inspiration from nature and can often be found on local
trails with her traveling watercolor set. Trained in the fine arts, she is inspired by organic forms such as flora, fabrics, and the female figure. She works in a variety of mediums particularly oils, watercolors, and graphite, seeking new ways to capture dramatic lighting and subtle tones. Megan’s work has been featured in galleries and small businesses throughout New Jersey, often displayed in hand-restored, vintage frames, for that curious and unique touch. In 2023 Megan wrote and illustrated Paint and Sip, a step-by-step guide for acrylic painting, published by Sparkpulg Publishing. She has also been featured as a contributing expert for Marthastewart.com, detailing how to display art in the home and support local artists. Megan enjoys working in the company of her animals and loves getting lost in the details.
What attracted you to work at ORS?
I was inspired to join One River because of the artistic community it fosters. I have always loved sharing my joy for art through education and events. One River is the perfect symbiotic relationship of both, as it lays a strong foundation for our students and supports local artists through gallery exhibits. I am so inspired by the creativity that comes through these doors, and take pride that I can be a part of the journey. One River allows me to be innovative and practice fun ideas everyday, all while being supported by the best team of co-workers.
What do you enjoy outside of ORS?
I enjoy taking hikes, throughout New York and New Jersey, with my watercolor sketchbook and partner in tow. Capturing the shifting lighting in landscapes inspires me. I am particularly challenged by waterfalls, and seek out locations like the Kaaterskill Falls for both the trails and the artistic challenge. My future plans include visiting more national parks and immersing myself in the array of flora and fauna found in America. When I am not making art or in nature I can be found sipping tea on my back porch with my cats Marmalade and Hazelnut.
