In a Digital World, One River School Innovates Art Education with Extensive Digital Art Program
High-tech classes offer something for everyone from recreational artist to career portfolio builder
(Englewood, NJ – July 12, 2024) – One River School, an organization on a mission to “transform art education”® in America, is leading the way in digital art education by offering a custom-designed digital art curriculum complementary to its traditional art programs. The school has converted approximately 25% of its total art studio space into state-of-the-art digital design labs with 22-inch hi-def tablets. In addition, it has built its curriculum and staffed its team to support the delivery of more than 20 unique digital camps and classes for students from elementary age to adult.
The prevalence of digital devices, the significant growth in digital design jobs, and the overall interest in the digital art landscape have created a growing digital shift being embraced by the art community. Of note, in 2021, Christie’s Auction House made history when it sold its first purely digital work of art. The digital jpg collage Everydays: The First 5,000 Days by artist Mike Winkelmann, also known as Beeple, had more than 200 bids.
“We saw the digital art movement taking hold and made the commitment to transform our schools and curriculum so that we could deliver the best digital art experience around,” said Matt Ross, Founder and CEO of One River School. ”It’s been a thrill to watch existing students pivot to digital, and newcomers toggle between our traditional and digital art studios. This is what One River School is all about - that fun experience, rooted in technique, that enables our students to produce the amazing outcomes they create.”
One River School’s digital curriculum is designed for all ages, from grade 3 to adult.
One of this Summer's Hottest Camp themes is Digital Character Design, where students explore how to design & render a character from the ground up. Using a SketchBook Pro, campers complete an original character design from ideation, sketching, and inking, to full rendering techniques. Creativity and art-making skills are challenged equally in traditional art as well as through the use of digital software. This camp is designed for the pure beginner digital artist. Newcomers and advanced artists are all welcome.
Other digital camps include:
Grades 3-5 - IPAD Painting, Toon Town, and Kawaii Creations
Grades 6-12 - Digital Grafitti, Comics and Digital Illustration, Digital Content Creators, Digital Manga, and IPAD Painting: Recreating Masterpieces
