Student Showcase: Charlotte T.

Tell us a little bit about your journey as a young and developing artist.
I’ve always been really into digital art. I stared doing traditional art as a kid but when I got my first tablet I was really interested. It’s much more forgiving because you can resize and change things easily. There’s a lot more freedom in digital art.

Which has been your favorite project to work on at One River and why?
I am really enjoying my current project (Character Cards). In past projects I’ve made a lot of collages which helped me understand compositions. Drawing characters is one of my favorite things and being able to apply my improved compositional skills has really tied it all together.

How would you describe One River to your friends?
Pretty Fun, there’s a lot of different options for classes so there is something for everyone. Every teacher I’ve had has been great and very nice and supportive. Nobody discredits me for my interests and I am able to make a lot of friends.

What would you tell people who’ve never dabbled in art making are the real benefits to trying it?
Art takes effort but its really rewarding once you figure it out. People don’t look at progress but art is more of a gradual thing. There is no one way to make something, everyone has their own style. Art is everywhere and it a very important part of life. Being able to express yourself in that way is a great skill to have. Every friend I’ve talked to says they are going to give up on art but the point is that it’s hard. It’s an extension of you, it’s something that expresses the way you are.
