Visual Curiosity

Can you tell me what the image above is?

One of the things that I love most about going on a trail-walk is coming around the bend and finding a landscape that stops me in my tracks. My visual curiosity often takes over and I find myself lost in the landscape in a way that becomes therapeutic.   There’s a musicality to seeing interesting things … my brain wants to untangle what I’m seeing as if I’m listening to a song trying to figure out the parts.

In this particular case, I was standing in the center of a vortex of incredibly tall pine trees that looked as if they were closing in on me. Each tree had to be at least six stories tall and narrow and searching for sun. As people were walking by me on the trail, I found myself rotating my camera phone just trying to find the right angle to capture what I was viewing.

Artwork is made in so many different ways. I happen to love the improvisational image as much as anything.
