In January of 2016, One River School of Art + Design invited 11 young artists ranging from 12-17 years old to participate in a six-month studio residency program in Englewood, NJ. These students were tasked with an audacious goal - to create a body of work that best portrayed their personal artistic visions, inspired by the contemporary art and artists they study at One River School.
Art Effect students were provided their own artist's studio and studied both independently and under the mentor ship of their artist-educators. Over the course of their six month residency, they were visited by some of today's most important artists and curators - including Katherine Bradford, Johannes VanDerbeek and Nicelle Beauchene. These important critiques in conjunction with gallery visits to NYC galleries immersed them into the contemporary art world and challenged them to create compelling artwork. A selection of artworks created by the young artists travelled across Boston, Philadelphia and New York City in the fall of 2016.
A new group of 14 students in 2017 have embarked on the Art Effect journey working alongside mentor Catherine Haggarty and Daniel Gadd. Stay tuned for 2017 exhibition information.
