This class provides adults with an immersive art-making experience across a variety of media. Students of all levels engage in a dedicated exploration of drawing, painting, sculpture, and other disciplines of the fine and decorative arts. Specific projects include, but are not limited to painting, drawing and clay sculpture. Using these media we will explore a variety of materials and subject matter while ensuring a fun and interactive process. Our teachers are professional artists who guide students through ambitious projects from conception to realization, developing strong technical and conceptual skills along the way. Instruction is tailored to the skill level of each individual, and each class is designed according to the expertise of the teacher. After your first month, there will be a $25 materials fee. Adult Drawing SpotlightTue - 11:00AM-12:45PM Weekly$155This course is intended for adults who are interested in developing core drawing skills through a variety of subjects. We investigate a series of specific themes involving landscape, still-life, abstraction and the figure. For each project, students are challenged to articulate and convey an overarching vision that dictates formal decisions surrounding composition, value, perspective, and other visual problems. Projects may incorporate both imagined and observed depiction, using a classroom set-up as a point of departure for composing a drawing with an imagined narrative. Emphasizing movement, gravity, posture and proportions, we focus on gesture drawing techniques to capture the human figure as you see it. Students will not only be able to depict the figure through observation, but you will also develop a deeper understanding of the make-up of the human body and the rules that govern its movement. Students will leave with a series of expressive gesture drawings exploring a variety of postures and a few long-term finished pieces. Art Effect: High School Competition Opening Reception
Art Effect: High School Competition Opening ReceptionFri - 06:00PM-10:00PM 05/31FreeJoin us on May 31st from 6-10pm for One River's first juried high school student competition, Art Effect. The event is a wonderful opportunity to see the talented local high school students showcase their artwork. The exhibition will be open from May 31st through June 2nd. Students from five area schools - Cresskill High School, Dwight Englewood High School, Northern Valley High School in Old Tappan and Demarest, and Tenafly High School - will be participating in the event. Each of the five participating high schools will curate their own exhibitions at One River Gallery based on submissions from their students. The submissions will be in a wide range of media, including drawing and painting, photography, and 3D models. The competition will be juried by John O'Connor, Professor of Undergraduate Drawing and Painting at Sarah Lawrence and Princeton and Clint Jukkula, Associate Professor of Painting and Director of Undergraduate Studies at Yale.
