Summer Doldrums
Sometimes I hear people talk about the “summer doldrums” and after a week of 100-degree weather and hearing this on the news, I wanted to dig a bit deeper on this term.
According to Wikipedia, the phrase is rooted in historical maritime usage…there is an area near the equator where a particular calm exists with virtually no wind. In our world, it often relates to a listless, almost stagnant period that tends to occur this time of year.
Shake it out people. This is the time of the year to reset, enjoy and appreciate a relative calm. As they say in Queens, “not for nothing”, you deserve a moment to reflect, chill and not feel guilty about it.
I use this time to plan exactly what I want to achieve over the balance of the year and try to lock in very specific goals for next year and beyond. The momentary quiet allows me to think better and reset some priorities. These priorities always include new ways to make myself better and that always includes things that generate personal growth.
Doldrums = time to reflect, plan and set new things into motion. Apply creative thinking to how you manage your life. And if you want to learn to think differently, come take a cool class with us.
